The Kennedy Dancers will hold auditions for pre-professional, afterschool dance training program called the Kennedy Dancers Inner City Youth Junior Dance Company. All young teens- ages 11 to 15 that possess raw talent and express an interest in training are welcome to audition at a modern dance class on Monday, June 16th at the Kennedy Dancers Studio (79 Central Ave.) at 5:30pm. Teens must live in Hudson County and they must also bring copies of proof of residency, copy of birth certificate and copy of their family financial information.

Weekends are off, except for performances. The ICY Dance program also performs about 15 concerts annually and many of them will be performed with The Kennedy Dancers Repertory Company (the professional ensemble). The Kennedy Dancers offer all students assistance in applying to dance programs in both high schools and college/universities. The Kennedy Dancers also assist both the pre-professional and the established professionals in the audition process for Broadway, movies and TV and all other professional dance companies.

The Inner City Youth pre-professional dance training program currently has 5 full scholarships available for September 2014 through June 2015. The full scholarships will consist of FREE tuition and may include some dance wear and attire. They must, however, pay for some dance shoes and some dance wear. The ICY dance training program also has 5 partial scholarships available. These scholarships pay a low monthly fee- some free dance shoes and dance wear, but must also pay for some dance shoes and dance wear.

Cinco de Mayo in Jersey City

cinco de mayoJersey City kicks of Cinco de Mayo early with a parade on Friday, May 2nd that will take over Grove between Grand and Montgomery from 4pm until midnight.

As part of the celebration recognizing the Mexicans’ victory at the Battle of Puebla, the New Jersey Beer Co. will be serving margaritas and beer, and The Taco Truck and El Chilango Taqueria will be serving up Mexican eats. Way to kick off the weekend!

CincodeMayo

My time-honored tradition is to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Hard Grove Cafe, (I know it’s Cuban but their margaritas pack a punch and I love their taco trio,) but since Jersey City is making a weekend out of it, I may salute at Orale! Mexican Kitchen on the actual day. Other places that come to mind are Taqueria, Boca Grande, Blue Moon Mexican Cafe, and let’s not forget the excellent brick-and-mortar Cinco de Mayo on Central Ave.

Salute!
