After a few freezing cold rainy days, it was finally decent in Jersey City. Dinner on the roof was in order! Iron Monkey, though it does not have the most spectacular view (partial, but includes the Freedom Tower), still has a great roof in terms of ambiance and friendly service. The food is always above par when it comes to standard bar fare, and this bar has over 300 beers—37 of which are on tap—not to mention everything’s reasonably priced.
My date and I started with the homemade crabmeat dumplings, a must-try. A party in your mouth with delicious soy-ginger dipping sauce, served over mixed greens for some balance.
Now that the unofficial summer season has kicked in, it’s high time we get ourselves looking pretty. Here are local deals for all of you Jersey City rezzies this week. That’s right: I do the research so you don’t have to.
My go-to spot for all of my laundry needs is 2 Boys Laundromat. I started going there because of its convenient location, but I really like their services. Basically, I drop off my laundry in the morning and pick it up after work folded, pretty and fresh. I only just realized they offer pick-up and drop-off services (laundry done within 24 hours). That would seem kind of lazy for me as they are a block away, but I would consider it if I had way too much to carry and no help. (Available all day; call 201-984-2643.) They service all of Hudson County and offer dry-cleaning too, though they outsource it so it may take a few days longer.
I love this particular line of their site: “We are committed to bring unique, reliable, stress free weekly or bi-weekly laundry services to your doorstep. As a result, we are dedicated to helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle balance by removing laundry from your to do list.” They even guarantee you will have at least 3 hours of more free time by using their services.
Felix, a.k.a. the Panty Man (my nickname), only employs the best. When something does go awry, Felix is quick to help out (besides the discalimer that they are not responsible for lost or damaged clothing)
Location: 85 Reservoir Ave. (corner of Lineau)
Hours: M-F 7:30am to 9pm; SAT: 7am to 9pm SUN: 7am to 7pm (Last wash M-S is 7:45pm)
Today, Jersey City welcomes its sixth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, a highlight of the social season here for many. This year, proceeds are going towards the reconstruction of Liberty State Park, where it is held.
“This event at Liberty State Park is a prime example of Governor Christie’s commitment to rebuilding our state after Sandy and to have our parks, natural areas and the shore areas open for business during the upcoming summer tourism season,” said Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin. “We welcome Veuve Clicquot to Liberty State Park and thank them for being a partner in helping us to showcase this recovery effort.” (Source: NJ.com)
Toast to the kickoff of the summer season by watching the polo match and sipping on Veuve Clicquot from one of the many champagne bars. NYC food trucks will also be on site. The best part by far, though, is the people-watching; this event has an impressive celebrity turnout year after year.
Must be 21+ to attend and tickets must be pre-purchased. The event is sold out, however...there are ways around that.
As the Park continues to promote green-living, no parking is provided onsite. Instead guests must arrive via ferry (from Manhattan) or via the Light Rail (Hudson-Bergen Line).
