Celebrate Pride This Saturday

logo-festival-pages
Woo-hoo! Jersey City Celebrates Pride in its 13th LGBT Festival on Saturday 8/24. Exchange Place Plaza is where the action starts and goes on from noon to 6pm. Come out and show your support for equality.

There will be plenty of entertainment—live music, games, an obstacle course, food, a vendor’s marketplace, a dunk tank, bronco ride and plenty of guest speakers who are prominent on the battle for local and national recognition. Our ever-present Mayor Steve Fulop will also be making an appearance.

This year’s hosts are Hudson Pride Connections Center and Humanity Pride. PRIDE co-chairs Jonathan P. Lucas and Michael Billy are expecting the biggest turnout yet.

Please recognize that this is a free event for all residents with no suggested donation, just simply that you support the message.

Other ways you can help:

Sponsorship: You or your organization can be a sponsor. Contact Jonathan Lucas at sponsors@hudsonpride.org or by calling Jonathan at 201-963-4779 x 420.

Macbeth Saturday 8/17

MACBETH

The Hudson Shakespeare Company performs Macbeth live at The Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery (435 Newark Ave.) at 7pm on Saturday, August 17th. Watch a classic put to the stage in this theatrical benefit for the cemetery, which is a 100% volunteer-operated space, having no house-of-worship affiliation and no city or state funding.

This performance is sure to knock you out of the park! So bring your friends, your family, your blankets (nights are starting to get chilly). You may think a cemetery is a creepy place to gather, especially at night, but Harsimus really is a neat spot. Read about my experience here.

There’s a suggested donation of $10 per person for the show. In the cemetery’s words: “Every month we need to raise between $2000 to $3000 just to operate & purchase equipment & supplies. If 300 people would donate only $10 each, we would be all set for the month of September! Please help our amazing restoration work by contributing today at http://www.jerseycitycemetery.org

Enjoy,
JCG

Orale! Mexican Kitchen

Mercado

Orale! Mexican Kitchen is a dining experience, one best enjoyed when you’re in a fun, upbeat, colorful mood. It’s a place to overload your senses: admire the art installations on the walls, engage your taste buds in innovative flavor combinations and talk loudly over the music while sipping on strong cocktails. Like a mini-party restaurant. Not that it’s a club—it’s definitely a restaurant—but you want to go there when feeling festive because the place just bleeds festivity.
