Become Your Best Self During COVID-19

You’ve stocked up, you’ve cleaned up, you’re staying inside/ away from others as much as possible.

After a few days of working from home, TV watching and stress junk food eating, you start to feel helpless, hopeless or bored AF in isolation.

But think of this as a time for self-reflection and opportunity.

What are things you also want to do to self-improve, and how can you help your community? Remember to take care of yourself first (airplane air masks). Only when you are healthy and implementing best practices are you able to help others.

To figure out your own list of how to fill this new, always-at-home time, start with your 2020 New Year’s resolutions. What did you hope to accomplish this year? Or even last year? What are actionable steps you can do now, from home?

Here are suggestion to create a healthy routine, home environment, and ideas for activity to maintain optimism in uncertain/scary times. [Note: These are particular to me/ my situation living alone in Jersey City during these times.] Please write if you have suggestions regarding: pets/children/work from home simultaneously with your spouse/roommate and how you’ve adjusted your routine/tips for sanity/pretty much anything else. I’ll be doing follow-up posts as the weeks continue.]

Dulce de Leche Bakery

Dulce de Leche Jersey City

Dulce de Leche in the Heights (376 Central Ave.) is my new favorite hangout spot in Jersey City and here’s why:

Awesome espresso and coffee is just the beginning.
dulce-du-leche

The space is big and bright, thanks to the high ceilings and lighting, and is perfectly upscale while still being welcoming of the mixed clientele. The staff is a bit flummoxed, as they are still figuring it out, but so are the customers, who are still figuring out where they now live or figuring out the changing landscape of where they have always lived.

Stephen King at Jersey City’s Landmark Loew’s Theatre 6/7

WORD Bookstore and the historic Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre (54 Journal Square Plaza) are hosting Stephen King for the inaugural event of his END OF WATCH tour Tuesday, June 7th at 7:30PM.

Tickets are $32 each and you must buy a ticket online in advance to attend. Official ticketing guidelines:

  • Due to capacity limits, each person is allowed to purchase a maximum of 2 tickets. If you purchase more than 2 tickets on our website, your order will be adjusted down to 2 when we process it. Please be nice to the WORD employees who are processing these orders and purchase no more than 2 tickets per person!

  • All tickets are non-transferable. No exceptions. At the date of the event you will be required to show a valid ID to enter. If you purchased more than one ticket, your plus one must arrive and enter with you.

  • Purchasing a ticket guarantees entry to the event as well as a hardcover edition of END OF WATCH. As a special bonus, we’ve been told that a limited number of attendees will randomly receive signed copies, so we wish you luck!

  • Seating will be assigned. The first people who purchase tickets will be assigned front row seating and we will continue to fill the rows in the order that the tickets were purchased. While we will try our absolute best to accommodate groups of 2 next to each other, there is a possibility that you and your plus one will be seated in different rows (though likely close together, directly in front/behind each other).

There are no refunds. To learn more about End of Watch, click here.
