Groove on Grove. Because, Jersey City.

grooveongrovesjerseycity

Groove on Grove is that awesome live music event that happens every Wednesday during the warm season at Grove Street Plaza. Different bands and musical acts are featured each week.

I used to go religiously, but this year has been hyper busy. Anyway, a shout out for their event tonight (8/17):

The Lineup:
Walter Parks
The Bottomless Mimosas
Bible Gun

Beyond the music this Wednesday, the Artist & Maker Market is back!

Let’s just hope the rain is minimally invasive;)

Annual Newport Beach Party July 13th!

Newport Beach Party 2016Newport Beach’s Annual Beach Party will take place along the Hudson River’s waterfront Newport Green (700 Washington Blvd.) on July 13th from 5-8pm.

There will be  two live performances by native rock band The Fuzzy Lemons, and the nationally-famed The Benjamins. Local restaurants Bwe Café, Raaz, Loradella’s and Cosi will be selling food and bevvies.

Newport Beach, if you didn’t already know, is: 8,000 square feet of authentic, castle-building sand, dozens of Adirondack chairs and large colorful umbrellas. Take in picture-perfect views of the Manhattan skyline, from the Empire State building to the One World Trade Center.

Dig your feet in the sand,

Jersey City Freedom & Fireworks Festival

FreedomandFireworks2016

YAAAS, Jersey City. Shout out your Fourth of July Freedom from the rooftops, or just join the party on ground level at Liberty State Park for the Freedom & Fireworks Festival.

Here we have live bands, carnival rides, food & drink, and of course…fireworks on the Hudson River.

The best way to get to Liberty State Park is probably by bike, considering the long walk you will have by car or PATH methods. The next best option is the Light Rail. Please read NJ Transit Advisories for the Fourth of July Freedom & Fireworks Show to plan your trip for maximum fun.

See you there!

Tonight is…A JC FRIDAY!

It’s the second JC Friday of the season, tonight, June 3rd, Jersey City! In lieu of a post trying to detail everything, I’m simply sharing a photo of the event pamphlet so you can have it at the ready on your mobile phone (just zoom in).

Since it seems daunting to tackle everything, I say pick a neighborhood you are unfamiliar with in Jersey City and attempt to visit as many places as possible there. Jersey City is a large, large city and has so much to offer. Personally, I love exploring new places and the people that live there.

On the other hand, if you are superhuman and manage to go to everything listed, please let me know and I will figure out some sort of prize for you because that is impressive!

Enjoy!

Interactive Kids Show 5/8

 Toomai-String-Quintet

Jersey City: You need not miss this.

Con Vivo Music invites Jersey City families on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 8th) for an interactive kids show with The Toomai String Quintet at the Barrow Mansion (83 Wayne St.) at 2pm.

Toomai will lead an exploration of how improvisation manifests itself in music of different styles, featuring works by Duke Ellington, Cachao, Perapeskaro, and J.S. Bach.
Toomai has performed in many capacities throughout the United States, with appearances at Lincoln Center, the 92nd St. Y, Philadelphia Arts Alliance, and for the Miami Civic Music Association, among others.

The quintet was a pilot ensemble for Carnegie Hall’s “Musical Connections” program, and they continue to perform regularly in schools, hospitals, and alternative care facilities throughout New York City. In addition, the Toomai String Quintet has brought its array of educational programs to students in California, Florida, and across the Northeast, and has presented interactive concerts in collaboration with organizations such as California Institute of the Arts, The Juilliard School, and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute.

Watch them here:

Best of all, the event is free, because some awesome organizations still believe in the arts.

See you on Sunday!
