Last Summer Hurrah

pina

I’m not sure about you, but I don’t feel like I got enough of summer. It started out cold and rainy, then there was a crazy heat wave, and then I got so busy I didn’t have time to vacate or even stay-cate…until the last two weeks of August. Breath of air, if I do say so myself.

Now, I’m itching for more. Even though the calendar says it’s September and Labor Day has past, it’s still (sometimes) nice out. For those of you who think summer was a bit too short and want to get out one last hurrah, let’s enjoy the sunshine upon us and still-decent daylight hours.

What better way to stretch the summer than to sit on the beach at Surf City this weekend?

Remembering 9/11

9.11

I was sitting in class my freshmen year at NYU, and a loud noise sounded. “Damn that construction,” my teacher cursed. We had yet to realize what that noise really was.

When I left the building, people seemed frantic outside. I bumped into a friend who pointed at the sky and said “Look!”

I looked. I’ll never forget that image. What a beautiful blue-skied day, those towers shining like crystal when I walked to class, and what a burning mess it was now. Debris and un-breathable air.

Downtown Jersey City Business Networking Group

meetup

In August, I was invited to a networking event for the Meetup group titled “The Downtown Jersey City Business Networking Group.” Frank Petronella, who will soon be opening a State Farm agency in the area, created the group as a way to get other local professionals together on a monthly basis to share tips, strategies, and not only promote their own initiatives but to connect and do business with others.

While this was only their second event, I found that most attendees had been to the previous month’s meetup, and many of them had worked together after that. When we went around the room to introduce ourselves, lots of people put in plugs for other business owners and professionals who were present.

This is just the kind of network we need here in Jersey City. DJCBNG “encourages business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals to build and maintain lasting relationships with other professionals in our community.”

The next event will be this Thursday, September 12th at Serenity Day Spa (263 Grand St.), which is owned by energetic and enthusiastic member Diane, so expect a great night of networking.

Oh, and feel free to invite others in the neighborhood who you think will benefit from this group.
