This week, Tuesday is Cheap-cheap Night, starting at 6pm (schedule here), and Wednesday and Thursday are both host of fireworks shows at night.Info here. Gates open at 6pm on weeknights except for the July 4th holiday, where they open at 2pm.
In addition to carnival rides, you can take a ride on the original Batcopter from the early Batman show and movies. You will also find special attractions, carnival oddity shows, great food and shopping.
Games include water games, racing games, balloon pops, pitch games, basketball, guessing games, duck ponds, fishing and more.
Last year, I went on almost every ride and even found a psychic with my name!

Friday 6/28/13
Kayaking on the Hudson River at Liberty State Park from 10am-12pm. Must be 16 years or older, $15 per person. Arrive 30 minutes early. Must pre-register. Reserve your spot here.
Creative Grove Art Market Visit the Grove Street PATH area to check out local art, jewelry and other crafts. 3pm-9pm. The rescheduled Groove on Grove collaboration for JC Fridays starts at 5pm. So you’ve got everything in one spot: Live music, art, shopping and food, all from our local musicians, artists and vendors.
Brightside Tavern (141 Bright St.) hosts its monthly comedy show at 8pm. Performers include Aalap Patel, Chelsea White, David Foster, Ryan Rummel, Pat Bryne, Nate Fernald and host Gordon Baker-Bone. Tickets are $10. Call (201) 435-1234 for reservations.
Sweep & Lafayette Rising Street Festival From 8am-6pm. The S.W.E.E.P is a community effort to clean up the Bergen-Lafayette region (Ward F) Meet at 314 Pacific Ave. 8am – 12pm. Following, MC CDC will be a daytime street festival featuring art and music. Rock out to DJs, participate in live painting, and support the many vendors that will be occupying the block. Jersey City Art School (326 Fifth St.) is hosting a two-day digital photography course from 11am-2pm (Saturday & Sunday). Learn about the functionality of your camera and how to best utilize them. Rules about composition will also be taught. $95 for two days. More info here.
Art House Productions presents “Font of Knowledge” at their theater (1 McWilliams Place) at 8pm. Tickets are $25 for VIP seating, $18 for GA, and $12 for students and seniors. Purchase here.

Jersey City has a few outdoor pools. However, today is not the best day for outdoor swimming. It is the perfect day for indoor swimming. And where better to do that than at Pershing Field’s pool?
Located at the corner of Summit and Pershing, the pool is open from 3:30pm on during the week, and by 1pm on the weekends. It’s $3 for adults ($5 for non-residents).
They have a locker room to store your loot and shower. I’ve got a great story about that here. They also provide swimming lessons.

Taking Better Pictures with DSLRis a two-day course taught by local photographer Alex Pergament from 12pm to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday at Riverview Fisk Park. Registration for the classes closes today, FRIDAY, June 14th. Saturday’s about decrypting the settings on your camera and choosing the best settings for your shooting style and subject. Sunday concentrates on composition, perspective and depth. The cost is $50 for one day and $80 for both.
St. Peter’s Universityparking lot plays host to Celebrate the Streets Festival. From 1pm, to 6pm, enjoy live music, a car, truck & bike show, raffles, kiddie rides and local craft and food vendors. Details here.
Grassroots Community‘s Rhythm Drum Circle is playing from 7pm-9pm at 54 Coles St. All are welcome to bring their drums and stamp their feet, or otherwise participate positively in rhythm-making.
Tachair Bookshoppe(260 Newark Ave.) welcomes author Andrew Wolfenson in house to talk about “Bloggin’ Baseball From the Bench” and “In His Own Defense” from 7pm-9pm.
Con Vivo Music is hosting a free concert “Strings +1” at the Barrow Mansion (83 Wayne St.) at 8pm. Music of Britten, Haydn & Kernis, plus Greg Steinke’s Native American Notes, the winner of their 2013 Composition Competition. Featuring Dan Lippel, guitar. Event details here.
Riverview Fisk Park is the backdrop for a film screening of “Art in the Garden: The Secret Life of…My Small Urban Backyard.” by filmmaker John Dunstan about his Jersey City turf. Crafts for kids at 8:30pm; film starts at 9pm.

Groove on Grove is happening on Friday this week, instead of its usual Wednesday. It starts at 8pm, also at the Grove Street PATH. Band lineup here.
JC Fridays ART Show SJC Green Drinks and ART JC Fridays team up at the HCCC Culinary Institute and Conference Center (161 Newkirk St. by JSQ PATH) for a night of art, music, refreshments, and best of all, artists will be speaking about their work and artistic processes. 6pm-9pm. Cost $5-10.
Hamilton Park hosts a festival including entertainment, children’s activities, sports clinics, vendors and more from 10am-6pm. Rain date is on Sunday June, 9. Details here.

Liberty Humane Society of Jersey City is hosting a go-kart fundraising event. There are even prizes for the fastest racers. Info here.
JC Food Co-Op is hosting a chef showdown at 4pm. Jersey City chefs will compete at this fundraising event at Barrow Mansion (83 Wayne St.) using JCFC in-season ingredients to create culinary delights that will be judged by local “celebrities.” Music, craft beer, a silent auction, and bowling in the famous antique alley in the basement will all be included.
