Tonight is…A JC FRIDAY!

It’s the second JC Friday of the season, tonight, June 3rd, Jersey City! In lieu of a post trying to detail everything, I’m simply sharing a photo of the event pamphlet so you can have it at the ready on your mobile phone (just zoom in).

Since it seems daunting to tackle everything, I say pick a neighborhood you are unfamiliar with in Jersey City and attempt to visit as many places as possible there. Jersey City is a large, large city and has so much to offer. Personally, I love exploring new places and the people that live there.

On the other hand, if you are superhuman and manage to go to everything listed, please let me know and I will figure out some sort of prize for you because that is impressive!

Enjoy!

Now that the weather finally decided to bestow its sunshine on Jersey City, I’d like to share my melanoma story with those of you who do not know me, and to remind you to practice sun safety as the unofficial summer season begins!

Interactive Kids Show 5/8

 Toomai-String-Quintet

Jersey City: You need not miss this.

Con Vivo Music invites Jersey City families on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 8th) for an interactive kids show with The Toomai String Quintet at the Barrow Mansion (83 Wayne St.) at 2pm.

Toomai will lead an exploration of how improvisation manifests itself in music of different styles, featuring works by Duke Ellington, Cachao, Perapeskaro, and J.S. Bach.
Toomai has performed in many capacities throughout the United States, with appearances at Lincoln Center, the 92nd St. Y, Philadelphia Arts Alliance, and for the Miami Civic Music Association, among others.

The quintet was a pilot ensemble for Carnegie Hall’s “Musical Connections” program, and they continue to perform regularly in schools, hospitals, and alternative care facilities throughout New York City. In addition, the Toomai String Quintet has brought its array of educational programs to students in California, Florida, and across the Northeast, and has presented interactive concerts in collaboration with organizations such as California Institute of the Arts, The Juilliard School, and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute.

Best of all, the event is free, because some awesome organizations still believe in the arts.

See you on Sunday!

Loews AMC Newport Movie Theater Upgrade

Loews AMC Jersey City

Becoming single allowed me a few hours of free time per week, and I had a random afternoon off without any friend or family time planned, no business engagements, and not feeling like working on my 18-zillion projects, so I decided, on the suggestion of the “Jersey City Guru,” to check out the new AMC Loews Newport Centre 11 at the mall. I was sold on the idea of the reclining leather seats. “You feel like you’re in a private movie theater in your home!” said Guru. “People start yelling at the screen because they get so comfortable that they forget they’re in public!” she gushed.

Enter the mall, yes we know the Simon Newport Jersey City Mall. It is what it is. Nothing fancy, but fulfills your Vicky’s, Sephora & LUSH needs, the inexpensive trendy chains, plus major deals to be scored at the major department stores.

Walk to the third floor as you observe the random crowd and get on line for your movie ticket—or not. Skip the line and go via machine with card. OK, this automated machine is as annoying and complicated as the PATH or metro system: They all ask too many questions and take too long. Which takes me to my next point:
