For those of you not in the know, the ward tour is a 15-mile bike ride of our city at a relaxed pace (not a race), that ends with a festival  featuring live music, food, drinks, and other attractions on the waterfront. The ride begins at 11am and the festival is from 1-5pm. All the action begins and ends at Exchange Place.

Registration is free, with a $5 suggested donation to help fund our year-round efforts for better biking in Jersey City.

Street Art Show: Closing Celebration

one bigDouble Trouble by City Kitty

On Thursday, May 29th, celebrate the closing of the May “Street Art Show,” which features local and regional artists and their various approaches to street art.

The show brings images, ideas, and expressions from New York City and Jersey City and consists of photographs, paintings, and sculptures representing street art and/or street art themes.

The coolest part about its final night: local artists will be collaborating live, creating a portable mural.

Location: CityLife, 125 1st St 7:30-9pm

Keep it street and keep it sweet,

Cinco de Mayo in Jersey City

cinco de mayoJersey City kicks of Cinco de Mayo early with a parade on Friday, May 2nd that will take over Grove between Grand and Montgomery from 4pm until midnight.

As part of the celebration recognizing the Mexicans’ victory at the Battle of Puebla, the New Jersey Beer Co. will be serving margaritas and beer, and The Taco Truck and El Chilango Taqueria will be serving up Mexican eats. Way to kick off the weekend!

CincodeMayo

My time-honored tradition is to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Hard Grove Cafe, (I know it’s Cuban but their margaritas pack a punch and I love their taco trio,) but since Jersey City is making a weekend out of it, I may salute at Orale! Mexican Kitchen on the actual day. Other places that come to mind are Taqueria, Boca Grande, Blue Moon Mexican Cafe, and let’s not forget the excellent brick-and-mortar Cinco de Mayo on Central Ave.

Salute!
