Jersey City Artists Studio Tour 10/18 & 10/19
This weekend marks one of the most fabulous (one of my favorite) weekends in Jersey City—that of the Artists Studio Tour. Residents of Jersey City are invited to the homes/studios of Jersey City artists. You’ll view their work, chat with them and can purchase snappy new pieces to adorn your walls and tables.
It’s the weekend my Mom buys another Jesus or Mary silk-screened piece from Shawn Michael Lang (the artist of the above), my Aunt Jennifer takes me to Grigory Gurevich’s house and Barrow St. Mansion, and my boyfriend or best friend and I get separated at 150 Bay in different studio apartments.
The kick-off party is on Friday, October 17th at Owen J. Grundy Pier, and shows run from 10-6pm on Saturday 10/18 and Sunday 10/19 in various buildings around town.

Lucid Visions: Opening Reception 10/16
The opening reception of Lucid Visions is this Thursday, October 16th from 6-9pm at Panepinto Galleries (371 Warren St.)
Local and international artists based in Jersey City are represented in this collection of work that “challenges, unhinges and altogether shifts perception of what should be called a ‘real’ experience. The territory between wakefulness and the dream-state is one widely traversed by artists. From the elegantly surreal to the deftly tactile, these selected works speak to the endless possible deviations from reality as envisioned by an unfettered mind.”
Book Release Party 10/11
Celebrate a new book with a release party and reading for “Tour Sucks,” a collection of hilarious (and terrifying) tour stories from Todd Congelliere, Ginger Alford, Chris Clavin, Ian Vanek, & more this Saturday October 11th, 3:30 at Iris Records (114 Brunswick Street).
Featuring readings by Joe Evans III (Razorcake magazine/Tour Sucks the book), Mike Faloon (from the Tour Sucks book, as well as Go Metric/Zisk zines), Larry Livermore (promoting his first book Spy Rock Memories and his upcoming book about his experiences running Lookout Records), and Michael Fournier (from the 33 1/3 on The Minutemen’s Double Nickels on the Dime, also supporting “Swing State,” a novel due 10/20 on Three Rooms Press).
Zach Rapport (Now People) will be playing some songs.
More info about the book here.
Read & Rock on,
