I didn’t have enough time to compile a post for this, but you must get your art fix on tonight Jersey City! Two on my list: “Eu Sou” (I Am) explores ideas about being Portuguese and about being a Portuguese-American, with work done on both tile and wood at Gaia Studios; The Cyberpunk exhibit at 58 Gallery.

Cork & Canvas Opens!

11391349_10205741028662660_6633484343336343866_nThere’s a new social painting space in town Jersey City: Cork & Canvas Paint Paint and Sip studio!

It goes like this: grab your friends, lovers, children, pick up a bottle of vino and have an exciting evening with talented artists who instruct you how to create your own masterpiece based on the “painting of the evening.” It’s a step-by-step process and no experience is necessary. The night is about creative expression, bonding and fun.

Explore your own creativity to form an individual piece of art that can be a statement piece for your home or a gift for someone else.

The grand opening of the studio, located at 275 Newark Ave., is this Friday, June 5th from 7-10pm. If you can’t make it then, here’s what you need to know for your future visit:

Choose your night based on your preferred painting. Check out the Calendar to decide what you’d like. Get family and friends to join in and then Register Online or call the studio (732.309.6568) to sign up.

Help Seniors in Jersey City!

first-aid-boxWant to help local homebound seniors prepare for emergencies? RSVP is the Nation’s largest volunteer network for people ages 55+, and is coming to Jersey City on Wednesday, April 22nd from 10am-1pm.

United Way of Hudson County, and the Secaucus Senior Center are joining forces to make 200 disaster kits for local homebound seniors in case of emergencies. Volunteers are needed at the Secaucus Senior Center to assist with registration, unpack supplies, and put the disaster kits together.

Individuals choose where to serve, how much time to give, and whether they will share skills they already have or develop new ones.   Volunteer activities include helping seniors get access to the healthcare they need, visiting homebound adults, providing critical disaster preparedness and response, providing nonprofit clerical support, and working in local soup kitchens and food pantries. The Disaster Kit Volunteer Service Day is just one example of the important work RSVP volunteers do every day.

To get started: Visit United Hudson and call Alexandra Nagy (201) 526-9706 or email her at anagy@jfsmetrowest.org

It’s hip to help!
