It’s time to celebrate the weekend again! Here’s what’s on tap for Jersey City residents.

 

Friday 5/31/13

Creative Grove Art Market Visit the Grove Street PATH area to check out local art, jewelry and other crafts. 3pm-9pm.

Surf City opens! Soak up sun and sand at this just opened “beach” club at 1 Marin Blvd. (formerly SandBar). Wash the week away with a pina colada and stay for the live DJ at 10pm. Accessible by PATH, light rail, car (free parking) and boat (yes, you can dock it there). More info here.

Saturday 6/1/13

Van Vorst Farmer’s Market Stop by Van Vorst Park (Montgomery St. & Jersey Ave.) from 8:30am-3pm to gather all of your local produce.

Not Yo Mama’s Affairs is hosting one of their Parks & Crafts series. There will be unique vendors, a Father’s Day card-making station, face-painting and live music from 11am-4pm at Van Vorst Park.  Details here.

 

Riverview

Sunday 6/2/13

Liberty Humane Society of Jersey City is hosting a go-kart fundraising event. There are even prizes for the fastest racers. Info here.

Riverview Fisk Park plays host to a Jazz Festival. Enjoy live music and activities from 11am-5pm. It’s free for you, thanks to local business sponsors! (Arrive earlier to shop the farmers market.) Jazz Festival details here.

Bike JC is holding its annual Bike Ward Tour at 11am. The 15-mile ride travels through all six wards and is about fun, not speed. Register online or in person at 9am at the starting point, Exchange Street (near PATH station). Suggested donation of $5. Full details and route here.

Hot 97’s Summer Jam Concert (number XX) is happening in nearby East Rutherford at Metlife Stadium at 3pm. Artists include Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, 2 Chains, Fabolous, Wu-Tang Clan and many more. Call (201) 559-1500 for ticket prices.

Van Vorst Farmer’s Market Stop by Van Vorst Park (Montgomery St. & Jersey Ave.) from 8:30am-3pm to gather all of your local produce.

Ed’s Exchange Merchant Market Shop the flea or sell your own goods. 10am-6pm at McGinley Square (672 Bergen Ave.) Tables are $10-20.

Applying For High School 101 For $20, learn the tips to get your child into the best schools in Hudson County, both public and private. Worskhop is from 11am-1pm at Indiegrove (121 Newark Ave, 5th Floor)

Walk the Walkway From 9am-12pm, join the Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy of NJ for a 3-mile walk in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the legislation that created this great riverfront treasure. Activities planned for this year include a bungee run, basketball & soccer shootout challenges, a bounce castle, a dunk tank and many other events. Earth Day 2013 Jersey City-style. Volunteer to clean up Lincoln Park West, still suffering from the effects of Super-storm Sandy. 10am-3pm.

Meet the Authors! New Jersey’s Lindbergh and Kidnapping Trial authors Mark W. Falzini and James Davidson will be signing their book at the library’s Main Branch from 1-3pm.

Spring Beer Garden Raise money for the community’s outdoor activities and enjoy a day of beer, wine, food and fun at Concordia Learning Center, St. Joseph School for the Blind (across the street from the reservoir). For ticket information, click here.
