It’s time to celebrate the weekend again! Here’s what’s on tap for Jersey City residents.

 

Friday 5/31/13

Creative Grove Art Market Visit the Grove Street PATH area to check out local art, jewelry and other crafts. 3pm-9pm.

Surf City opens! Soak up sun and sand at this just opened “beach” club at 1 Marin Blvd. (formerly SandBar). Wash the week away with a pina colada and stay for the live DJ at 10pm. Accessible by PATH, light rail, car (free parking) and boat (yes, you can dock it there). More info here.

Saturday 6/1/13

Van Vorst Farmer’s Market Stop by Van Vorst Park (Montgomery St. & Jersey Ave.) from 8:30am-3pm to gather all of your local produce.

Not Yo Mama’s Affairs is hosting one of their Parks & Crafts series. There will be unique vendors, a Father’s Day card-making station, face-painting and live music from 11am-4pm at Van Vorst Park.  Details here.

 

Riverview

Sunday 6/2/13

Liberty Humane Society of Jersey City is hosting a go-kart fundraising event. There are even prizes for the fastest racers. Info here.

Riverview Fisk Park plays host to a Jazz Festival. Enjoy live music and activities from 11am-5pm. It’s free for you, thanks to local business sponsors! (Arrive earlier to shop the farmers market.) Jazz Festival details here.

Bike JC is holding its annual Bike Ward Tour at 11am. The 15-mile ride travels through all six wards and is about fun, not speed. Register online or in person at 9am at the starting point, Exchange Street (near PATH station). Suggested donation of $5. Full details and route here.

Hot 97’s Summer Jam Concert (number XX) is happening in nearby East Rutherford at Metlife Stadium at 3pm. Artists include Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, 2 Chains, Fabolous, Wu-Tang Clan and many more. Call (201) 559-1500 for ticket prices.

A Time In Arcadia Exhibition is being held at the Jersey City Public Library’s main branch (472 Jersey Ave.) from 10am-7pm. Learn about plants, gardening, and cultivating the earth. More info here.

Read to Ella! at the Five Corners branch of the library (678 Newark Ave.) For children grades K-3. 3:30pm.

Green Villian is hosting a festival at the Lafayette Community Garden (314 Pacific Ave.) at 12pm. Live music. Admission is $20.

Lucky 7 Tavern (322  2nd St.) and the Lamp Post Bar & Grill both have live bands from 9pm and 10pm on, respectively.

St. Mary’s Church, Resurrection Parish (254 Second St.) is having their annual  Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo Festival. Mass will be at 2pm, followed by a procession and a street fair (Second St. between Erie & Marin) with artists from The Filipino Channel (TFC) performing.

 

Monday 5/27/13

The Lafayette Amvets Post 33 will hold a Memorial Day Parade which will kick off at 9:30am at Pacific and Bramhall avenues

Honoring Our Heroes: Military and Musical Tribute will be hosted at The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery (435 Newark Ave.)

Walk the Walkway From 9am-12pm, join the Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy of NJ for a 3-mile walk in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the legislation that created this great riverfront treasure. Wine Tasting Fundraiser Raise money to benefit Grace Church seniors and to feed the hungry while tasting wines (and scotches and beers) from all over the world, eating small bites, and taking in a photography exhibit at Grace Church Van Vorst (39 Erie St; enter on 2nd St.). Saturday 5/11/13

Race along the Hudson River waterfront in the Newport 10k, the fastest course in the region. $15,000 worth of prize money will be awarded immediately after the race, and will be followed by a post-race party with music, refreshments and prize drawings. Win NY Mets tickets, NY Red Bulls tickets, a 1- hour massage or several restaurant gift certificates. $35 to register on race day at Newport Town Square (100 Town Square Place). Proceeds will be donated to the Jersey City Medical Center.

Jersey City Pet Owner’s Day. Drop by the Lincoln Park parking lot anytime from 10am to 4pm to get your fluffy friend free rabies shots, free 3-in-1 shots, and licensing (cats do not need to be licensed in Jersey City). Clinics will also provide free counseling on spay/neutering, and for a small fee, microchipping, take-home dosages of Strongid (for worms), and activity flea/tick treatments. Keep your pet healthy. Green Villian, our home-owned graffiti artists, are throwing a street festival on Pacific Ave. (between Communipaw and Lafayette). Live music (acoustic & DJs), a pop-up skate demo, street vendors, food vendors,  face painting, live painting and a capoeira demonstration are all involved. Start time is 12pm. More deets here.

Pushing the Daisies Spring Music Festival The Historic Jersey City and Harismus Cemetary (435 Newark Ave.) is hosting a music festival with 11 bands playing from 1pm-9pm. Tickets are $10 + donation at the door. Adult & children beverages, food, massages and Mother’s Day gifts are all for sale on the premises. If you arrive later in the day or simply can’t get enough music, there’s an after-party at the Lamp Post (382 2nd St.) with three more bands performing.
