Dulce de Leche in the Heights (376 Central Ave.) is my new favorite hangout spot in Jersey City and here’s why:
Awesome espresso and coffee is just the beginning.
The space is big and bright, thanks to the high ceilings and lighting, and is perfectly upscale while still being welcoming of the mixed clientele. The staff is a bit flummoxed, as they are still figuring it out, but so are the customers, who are still figuring out where they now live or figuring out the changing landscape of where they have always lived.

It is a great community space for a rapidly growing community, joining other additions Congress Cafe, Mod Cup and Dream Coffee on Palisade Ave. We used to have to go downtown to Beechwood, bwe, Lackawanna, Dames, Choc-o-Pain, Ground Connection, etc. etc. etc. But now we have options!
Dulce de Leche has many tables and counters for a quick catch up with a friend, casual breakfast with your family, or to conduct a meeting/do work. Yes, there is plenty of seating and free wi-fi! And while you order at the counter, they serve you at your table. It’s upscale fast casual.
They have delicious baked pastries of every amazing type (be careful if you’re being careful about your waistline), grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches (think yogurt parfaits, croissants, quiches, salads, sandwiches) and then the entire 20-foot-long pastry counter with everything else. I think I may even hire them for my next party’s dessert: cake, pies and tarts galore.
[Side note: I miss Goerhig’s so so so much, and Dulce de Leche helps fill the void. Does anyone even know about Goerhig’s? Like, am I the oldest millennial in the Heights?]
Happy to have this lovely spot that is always bright and lively. Dulce de Leche is the perfect neighborhood getaway in the dead winter months of the Heights.
Love and Sweets,
JCG
