Hidden Hymns [Saturday, June 17]

Hidden Hymns is an evening of Modern Dance by Meagan Woods & Company set to live original music by Shayfer James – and it all goes down at the 407 Theater-County Prep HS (525 Montgomery Ave.) this Saturday, June 17th at 7pm.

Meagan wanted to create a night with dance at the forefront, a show to highlight professional dancers, feature students, and honor a true coming together of friends and dedicated collaborators, such as Shayfer, who she’s worked with throughout the years.

“I can feel something building, something really meaningful,” says Meagan of choreographing and rehearsing these six dances, with a collective cast of 21 dancers.

Tickets are $15/general; $6/students. Purchase online here. You can also pay at the door, but door tickets are cash only.

Meagan Woods & Company can use your support to continue bringing arts programs to the community. Think: costumes, lighting, sound, rehearsal space & venue rentals, professional musicians and dancers, and so much more that goes into making these shows possible. You can donate to the cause here, and your gift is tax deductible.

To the arts,

Anti-Violence Unity Walk [Saturday, June 10]

The second annual Unity Walk in Jersey City, hosted by The Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Movement, takes place this Saturday, June 10.

Pamela Johnson, the director of the movement, started the walk in 2016 to raise awareness that violence in Jersey City increases during the summer, year after year.

The walk begins at the corner of McAdoo Ave. and Martin Luther King Drive at 9am, and ends at Lincoln Park, where there will be a picnic, games, live entertainment, informational booths, and crafts.

Beyond the walk, the Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Movement hosts empowerment workshops each month.

wardtourjc

It’s that time of year again, Jersey City—when we GET OUR BIKE ON and ride throughout the six wards of Jersey City in the Bike JC Ward Tour.

The race begins at 11am at Exchange Place on Sunday, June 4th. Enjoy a 15-mile ride on streets closed to traffic at an easy 10mph pace (with rest stops and a police escort). Upon finishing, celebrate with live music, food, drinks and other fun.

Registration is free, with a $5 suggested donation to fund BikeJC’s efforts to make cycling better, safer and more accessible in Jersey City.

Ward Tour check-in begins at 9am at Exchange Place. It’s recommended to get there before 10am because—of course—you want to situate yourself and hype up before the tour.

Be inspired. Helmets REQUIRED.
