ARTOberfest 9/27

Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) presents ARTOBERFEST – a day of arts, diversity and community – this Saturday (9/27) from 12-8pm at 339 Newark Avenue, in the parking lot of Merseles Studios.

ARTOBERFEST features art, music, dance, and theater. The Jersey City Brew Club’s 4th Annual Homebrew Competition also will be featured at the festival. Premium beer and homemade Italian food will be sold throughout the day. The entertainment includes music from bands and a DJ, dance, comedy, theater and visual arts. In addition, the latest Jersey City Mural, commissioned by JCTC and painted on the Southern wall of the Merseles Parking Lot, will be unveiled for its public debut.

The event is free and open to the public.

Jersey City Fashion Week (JCFW) presented by DLJ, Give to Live Community Foundation, has emerged as one of the leading platforms for those in the creative field. Eager to showcase developing designs and businesses, participants and attendees include a variety of educated, influential, and fashion forward individuals who occupy Jersey City and its neighboring towns.

9/24 Opening Night Fashion Soiree with Serwah Asante of Rue 114 from 6-10pm at VB3 Restaurant and Bar (475 Washington Blvd.)  Red Carpet Host and Mistress of Ceremonies Lori Bryant Ms. Black NJ USA 2010. Come see the fabulous clothing line Rue 114 by Designer Serwah Asante and LeVirage Fashion by Designer Nadu Lawson. Performances by Recording Artist Marlena Moniece. 9/25 A Walk-thru In the Park  An Exclusive VIP Fashion Event – at 6pm at Maritime Park. (85 Audrey Zapp Drive). Featuring Jim Jones Rapper and Reality TV Star’s Vampire Live clothing Line. Former NFL Player and Superbowl Champion Darrell Reid debuts his new line DRLM. Hosted by Delvon Johnson from the reality show Fashion in the Fast Lane on the Funhouse Television Network. Top Model Louise Allen III will walk the runway for the cause. JCFW People of Influence Awards presentation. Tickets: $50.00 in advance; $60.00 at the door; $85.00 VIP.

9/26 A School of Fashion Children’s Fashion Event at NJ City University Student Center (2039 Kennedy Blvd.) from 6-8pm. Featuring P.S. Aeropostale and Children’s Place. Performance by Dejohnna Missy Dee Booker. Co-sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County’s Keystone Club’s Clothes for a Cause. Please bring a clothing donation. Tickets:  $20.00 in advance; $30.00 at the door.

9/26 Featured Store Night and Night of Lights Featured stores include Gentleman’s Attire in Greenville, On the Ave in the Heights, Tia’s Place Downtown and Aaraa in Hoboken. Discounts available that night. Must register on Uniiverse and bring ticket or say JCFW for discount.

9/27 New Faces Catwalk in the Park An Upscale Fashion Event with Emerging Designers from 6-10pm at Liberty Science Center (222 Jersey City Blvd., Jersey City, NJ) Featured designers include the very talented Marco Hall and Project Runway Season 12 and Season 10 designers Helen Castillo and Nathan Paul. Performers include Recording Artist Chuck Macist and Soprano Giselle Bellas. Jeff Foxx from WBLS and Sirius XM will broadcast internet radio show live. Hosted by Jersey City native Jeannette Josue National Ms. New Jersey and Miss New Jersey USA. Tickets: $20.00 in advance; $30.00 at the door; $40.00 VIP.

9/28 Estilo Moda Comida: Where Style Fashion and Food Collide for the Soul JCFW’s Fashion Brunch from 12-2pm at Liberty Prime Steakhouse (111 Montgomery Street). Includes up to $40.00 worth of food, two mimosas and dessert for two people. Dessert sponsored by Fashion-Kin. All About Downtown Street Fair 9/20

This Saturday, September 20th, is the all-out awesome All About Downtown Street Fair.

Stroll up or down Newark Avenue (between Grove St. and Jersey Ave.) to soak up live music, nosh on noms, sip adult bevvies, and shop from 11am-6pm.

Newport Liberty Half Marathon 9/21

Newport Liberty Half Marathon
This Sunday (9/21) is the 21st annual Newport Liberty Half Marathon in Jersey City.

Recreational and elite runners from around the country can compete for $3,000 in prize money on a USA Track & Field-certified course that interweaves with the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway from Newport to Liberty State Park.

The open-air race, sponsored this year by BATS Global Markets, has been called the most beautiful course in the Tri-State area with spectacular views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano Bridge.

Winnings and records will be awarded immediately after, during the Post-Race Party with refreshments, a local DJ and several prize drawings for gift cards and event tickets.

Proceeds are being donated to the Jersey City Medical Center, the area’s newest regional teaching hospital, proving the highest level of care for women, infants, and trauma and heart patients.

Golden Door Film Festival 9/16-9/21

 The majestic Loew’s Theater: A hidden gem in Journal Square

Tommy Hilfiger presents Jersey City’s 4th International Golden Door Film Festival, starting with the opening event this Tuesday 9/16.

The film festivities start at the Opening Gala this Thursday with films “Six Letter Word” and “The Odd Way Home” showing at Landmark Loews Theater in Journal Square.

Friday’s screenings begin at 3pm and continue throughout Saturday and Sunday at different theaters in Jersey City. There will be after-parties all four days to give you the opportunity to mix and mingle with filmmakers, actors and fellow JC arts lovers.

More than 60 films will be screened at five locations throughout the city during the four-day fiesta, which connects emerging and famous filmmakers from our great city and beyond.

First things first: Decide what you want to see! Film list for the weekend here. The Red Carpet Galas on Friday and Saturday were a smash last year.

All-access VIP passes are $150 each (all screenings and events) or you can purchase tickets for individual screenings for $10 ($5 student discount) and individual events for $10-$20.
